"Some unforgettable days & night passed away......." This is my google talk status message since the kshitij'08 is over. for those who dont know what kshitij is ?. It is one of India's biggest techno-management fest at intercollegiate level held by IIT Kharagpur. The preparation for this fest was probably started from april'07 . I was given the responsibility of Head Design Team, whose work include Designing brochure, pamphlets, posters and in the end arena for the Kshitij. The theme for the fest was Colosseum. and that i know from nov. but the work started on arena in January. I and Ritesh first sit to get the model and pics of Colosseum so that we can generate the drawings and give to contractor 'MANNA DA' to work on. I got good google sketchup model. whom we placed at the proposed site of arena first day. we actually take the google earth pic of site of kshitij arena and placed model of Colosseum there. the entire team appreciated the first day work but the real work will start now.I first generated all the required drawings PLANS AND UNIT ELEVATION on CAD so that contractor would be able to build up the structure. when contractor come in picture. one day we sat with MANNA DA and gave the idea about whole design. he promised to complete work on time with an STUNNING COST for project. then the seniors ( earliar arena heads and design team heads) came in they gave the idea how the construction goes and with little change in design u can save much money. The name of "GHANDHI" is mentionable among them. who gave us complete idea about the construction and few tricks to reduce the cost of arena. we followed them and started work on. we altered drawing and gave it to manna. this time he doesnnot talk about the cost but we were confident that the cost will reduce to large extent. our next chellange was to select decoration team and for decoration arena, several items to be prepared. That was the nights about whom i was talking about. we always start work at 9pm in night and work till the set target is compete. we work during sf also in days and nights. that time what make us work was the involvement and dedication for kshitij, the feeling was - this is our fest and it must be as reputed as the name of IIT Kharapur itself, anything less than that not acceptable. whole DECO team worked on our direction very dedicatedly and finally our work spread the colors of success. I thank personally every volunteer member and head to make this possible. those days and nights were really unforgettable. The days when i(we) work with complete commitment and dedication irrespective of time.

PHYSICAL MODEL OF DESIGN

CONCEPT SHEET

This was last semester first design problem and it was to be done completely by hand and we even have have to make physical model for this design. the problem lasted in around 40 days, with several presentations on site analysis, zoning, quality of spaces and the of course the final design presentation too.

The plan form has been derived from a fish and division of spaces is done as various parts of fish. the elevational treatment is done in wavy form in order to give the feeling of sea, so the overall impression generated by it is that it is something related to sea. the site was quite near to sea so cafeteria is provided such that user get full view of sea from dining table. the material use was alucobond cladding and wall masonary and glass the water body just outside the building was provided to create an illusion of 'Building is floating on water'. the section of that part played important role in order to create that effect.

Primary School Desigm

A 10 classroom primary school with library, computer lab , playground and other services was given as last design problem of 4th semester. for primary school lighting and ventilation is very important comcern keeoing this in mind my design results as ..............

Bus Stop Time Problem

The problem stated bus stop model that can be replicated at various spots of IIT Kharagpur campus itself. the campus is very green and good transportation system is assumed. I proposed following design keeping surrounding of campus in mind and i put a lot effort in making its model. the result is this one...........

Community Centre Design

Design Problem Stated to design a community center where marriage ( major function) can take place efficiently and in off season some kind of health care program or hobby classes for community children can be organized keeping this i proposed above design.

I gave the big hall for marriage purpose and the adjacent room for kitchen purpose the ground on back side include the office and a hall where health care unit can be accommodated. the first floor occupies dorms for guest coming in marriage and rest open area on back side can be used for children to play and for their recreation front lawn has been developed so that the dinner of marriage ceremony can be hosted in lawn also. elevation has been given the typical rajasthani maharaja's( king) fort type features. as it is a marriage hall (dominantly) and groom is treated like king that time so marriage place must not less that palace of king.

First Yr Aviary Design

In the early days of my first year we used to mostly sketch, draft simple things and were learning descriptive geometry. we had a subject called Basic Design in which we used to design table-chair, picnic spot, aviary and watch tower etc.
The above is of aviary that i designed in those days. earlier driven by the form i decided to make a bird kind of structure itself so that children (Users) can easily identify or get some idea what is that all about and when they came near found exactly what they thought of yes Aviary.
